Title: Illinois Digital Cultural Heritage Community Project Presentation

Abstract: The Digital Imaging and Media Technology Initiative (http://images.library.uiuc.edu) of the University of Illinois Library explores the use of multimedia and network technology to promote preservation of the Library's unique collections and to provide widespread access to these collections. This presentation discusses five critical issues that DIMTI addresses - access to collections; digital preservation; formats, metadata and vocabulary standards; search and retrieval of visual information; and visual resources for instruction and research. DIMTI projects were shown, each project addressing one or more of these issues. The presentation was close with a tour of the DIMTI laboratory facilities.
